Is it hockey season yet?

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of learning new names, looking up stats, figuring out if Hossa is really hurt, etc. Don't get me wrong, I usually don't mind doing the research when it's a supplement to watching the Hawks play, but it's definitely July and I'm missing hockey. The schedule's out and preseason tickets are on sale, so that's a sign we are getting closer. Only a few more months!

GM changeup

Dale Tallon has now been replaced with Stan Bowman as General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks. While Dale will still be a part of the organization (as Stan already was and has been promoted), it is difficult to understand why this change took place, and furthermore, why now? We have made great strides this season in not only making it to the playoffs, but almost winning the WC (that's Western Conference, not the loo) against the 2008 defending Stanley Cup champs. Why mess with a good thing?

Tallon seems to be confident (to the media, at least) that this is what is best for the Blackhawks. We will see.

Onward and Upward

Been gone to Myrtle Beach for a bit for vacation, and of course, all kinds of things go down while I'm gone. So it's time for a bit of catch-up and recap:

  • Havlat: So he bailed to the Wild. We'll miss him. Could we have kept him if we had our paperwork shit together? Who knows.
  • Khabi: I wasn't too upset when I heard we unloaded you to Canada. You've been great, but it's Huet's time to shine. And not to mention you freed up some funds. Which brings us to our next topic...
  • Hossa! I couldn't believe this when I heard it. A 12-year deal? Wow! I think his experience could really be a catalyst to our young, talented, players, and perhaps will help us get to the post-season again, and possibly to the cup. I'm not even going to address Hossa's team-hopping for Lord Stanley's Cup. That would be a bad omen for us. Oh, and let's not forget Tomas Kopecky that we got just for good measure. Take that, Redwings.
  • John Madden: No, not another turducken, it's John Madden the defensive forward who played for the New Jersey Devils. This is a great addition. Expect some excitement and short-handed goals out of this one. Maybe now our penalty kills might not suck so bad.
  • Resigns: Troy Brower, Corey Crawford, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson, and Cam Barker. Good, good. Wait, there's a name missing here...
  • Versteeg: Breaking news! We signed Versteeg to a 3-year deal! W00t!!

Catch ya'll tomorrow!
