Hawks I Miss: First Installment

As the season is off to a start, it's good to see former Hawks playing across the league. From time to time, it's good to see where they are now and reflect on days past.

Let's throw the spotlight on former Blackhawk defenseman James Wisniewski.

Why I miss him:

His lighthearted locker room banter, especially in interviews with Sarah Spain where he would usually poke fun about Kane not being able to grow any facial hair or about Burish being a pretty boy.

His scoreboard segments, like this one:

Why it's probably good we let him go:

While he's great on my fantasy hockey team for penalty minutes, our team could probably do without hits like this from last March, causing lengthy suspensions:

Consequently, I wonder if after the game he went out for beers with the guys to catch up. Do they leave it all out on the ice as part of the game? Or is Wiz just a stone cold douchebag?

Lastly, shenanigans like this are frowned upon, though hilarious. Not really good for PR. While you may not be the brightest player on the block, you sure do up the entertainment value when you step onto the ice. Here's to you.

The Wait is Almost Over

This hasn't been as long of a summer as many before for Hawks fans. Since the Hawks won the Stanley Cup in June, fans like me have been able to catch up with who has the cup, not to mention see the team online at a million public appearances around Chicago (the Cubs and Sox appearances alone have been numerous). It's been an active summer in terms of roster changes, especially the big change in goal to Marty Turco. And while I will really miss Byfuglien, Versteeg, Fraser, and Burish (some for talent, others for sheer entertainment), I'm looking forward to learning a whole new set of players and seeing them in action.

2 1/2 weeks until preseason, which I know doesn't count, but I'm so desperate for some hockey!

Hockey season is less than 4 months away...

Okay, I know it just ended (for the Blackhawks!), but winners and losers alike (sorry, Leafs) always look forward to next year. (The Cubs have already started.) The preseason Hawks schedule is up:

DateOpponentVenueTime (Central)
Wed, Sept. 22at Tampa Bay LightningMTS Centre (Winnipeg)7 pm
Fri, Sept. 24at Detroit Red WingsJoe Louis ArenaTBD
Sat, Sept. 25vs. Detroit Red WingsUnited CenterTBD

Thurs, Sept. 30at St. Louis BluesScottrade CenterTBD
Fri, Oct. 1vs. Pittsburgh PenguinsUnited CenterTBD
Sun, Oct. 3vs. St. Louis BluesUnited Center

The best part for me is that by the time these preseason games are happening, I will be really close to having the baby, if I haven't already. I'm really looking forward to having a new addition, and also not being pregnant anymore. I love that our first game is in Winnipeg. Is that a move on Bettman's part to see how many fans show up? Come on, man, just move the Coyotes. Or you know what? Go ahead and move Tampa Bay. They'll already be up there for the first game anyway, and who the hell cares about hockey in Florida?

Stanley's Tour of Chicago

They did it. The Blackhawks brought the cup home to Chicago. And I'm proud to say I was there for game 1 of the history that was made. I can't wait to go this Sunday on vacation to Chicago. Maybe we'll get a glimpse of the cup? Although I have gotten to see it a few times in Toronto at the IHHF, along with the Conn Smythe. I can't wait to go back and see Toews' name on that one.

So it's been passed around at Chicago bars, attended the a Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley, and been to California to be on the Tonight Show. Where to next?

While I'm not sure of the answer to that question, what the hell is Marian Hossa wearing?! (Check it out at :40)

I know you're not American, but what is that about?! He looks like an extra at the beginning of Borat where he's in Kazakhstan. What, is Hossa letting Ovechkin dress him now? It's the dark sunglasses, hat, and Blackhawks flag as a scarf at the ball game that get me. Well, if he's ridiculously hungover, I believe he has good reason. I noted that Patrick Kane sounded really hoarse on the Tonight Show. I'm sure it' s been non-stop parties, and why not? They're young, they deserve it, and let's face it folks: with our cap space issues, this is probably not a repeater for the 2010-2011 NHL season.

Game Five

So now it's even. Can the Blackhawks pull ahead for the lead today? That depends on some key elements.

  • Buff has to not let Pronger shut him down
  • More improvement in the Hawks passing game
  • Don't get called on dumb penalties (Eager, Versteeg, I'm looking at you)
  • Park in front of the net!
  • Run 'em ragged...we have more depth and will win out
  • Leighton just isn't that good
Home ice advantage should help, but let's seal the deal in six.

Game One - Stanley Cup Finals

It was unbelievable, and it was loud. Here's the proof: amazing.

A very sloppy, high scoring game 1, but a win, nevertheless. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so we took it and headed the five hours to the UC for game 1. Seemed like there were some penalties that should have been called on the Flyers last night, but being in the nosebleeds, I suppose I could have been wrong.

Here are some pics:

LET'S GO HAWKS!

On to the last one

I didn't blog after game 1 and we won. I didn't get to blog after the second game, and we won. After that, I was too superstitious to blog. So because I didn't, we won. Sure, believe that.

So on to the Broad Street Bullies. I have been most impressed with Niemi and Byfuglien. I can't wait to watch the game Saturday!
